Default Lifter noise when idling down

I have a lifter noise that I never have noticed before.... Almost like a rattle when coming down in the rpms, say between 2500....idle. Seems to get better after about 20 minutes of warm up. Never seemed to have it last summer. Is this normal???? Maybe it was there last year but I didn't notice.

its normal, my wifes 08 Tahoe occasionally does it....I have fairly new lifters in my 99, so no rattle yet, though I would be hard pressed to hear anything over the cam/exhaust... How long since your last oil change? What type, weight and filter used? I would check the level at the very least.

Yep all mine did it......annoying, gets worse every time I change oil then after a few 100 miles quiets down. I tried heavier 10-40 oil and it made it much worse.

Changed oil yesterday, Pennzoil 5-30, wix filter. Before change it was full. Oil level gets checked every other fill up. about once a week, might have to add a splash now & then.

I just changed oil too and the noise is back, usually after a few 100 miles its gone. Actually I believe what we are hearing is the lifters clattering a bit from small amounts of air in them. It takes time to bleed it all out. One thing you can try that will work is to let it idle hot for 15 mins, that should get them quiet again. It never hurt anything in any of my 4 LS1 cars and they all did it.
