longer crank bolt?
I've used the heat method multiple times and never had an issue.Not saying its the be end all of methods but it works just as safely as any other method. ATI service line will also recommend this method to aid in the installation. Those seals are pretty tough.

That Hawks tools from Colorado speed looks to be a good choice I'm not so sure I want to put my balancer in the oven on top of the fact my oven is no where near my car and would not be hot by the time I got to it
While I don't think a 400 degree damper would melt the front seal, I still think it's excessive as it's certainly over it's maximum design temperature. I wouldn't do it.
And on a stock damper with the elastomeric rubber bonded between the outer & inner sections, 400 degrees might negatively affect the bond.
Get the right damper installer. Or make one up with a threaded rod, a nut, washers or a plate of some kind with plenty of grease on the threads and nut.

200-250 is the oven setting I've heard and used not sure where 400 came from? Even so i usually just use a small torch to heat up the back pulley snout so I dont get anywhere near the pulley rubber bonding
