How long will builds last? Heads, cam, intake, valve springs? Approx. how long will this last, estimate of miles it will last until I should rebuild again? What if my engine has 117k and I build without replacing the bottom end and pistons (compression was within spec)?
Valvesprings become a maintenance item with aftermarket cams. Use an aggressive cam and try and run the springs too long and you can trash the whole thing and have nothing but an intake left after just a year.

Is it true that it's not the duration or LSA of the cam but the lift that dictates what after market springs to use. So .600" lift, Valve springs become a maintenance item.

It's the ramp rate of the lobes that determines the life of valvesprings. High lift cams can be gentle and with the right springs can last. But there are lots of variables. Pushrod stiffness, open and closed rates of springs, oil, RPM, valve weight, guide material (copper vs powdered metal), and rocker arm... With the stock arms, keep lift below .630 to keep the valve from excessively scrubbing.
