I've got my fox body/6.0 project going but am having what appears to be a cooling issue. I'm running a new short block from Don Hardy and a truck water pump. No underdriven pulleys. 180deg thermostat. Nice aluminum radiator with electirc fan. I have a new manual gage with the sensor in the head. On a 80-90deg day it registers 210deg. just idling around the track without any passes. This seems high to me.

And if I spray it it hits 230 in a hurry.

Is there anything obvious I should do to improve the cooling? Is reading the temperature at the head generating higher numbers than at the intake of a say a SBC?

AS posted earlier I'm new to Ls motors. Therefore, maybe I'm doing soemthing wrong or missing something. Comments are welcome.

 

What brand radiator and what kind of fan set up do you got

 

First I'd replace the 180 stat with a 160. Then look into fan(s). From the sounds of it you only have 1? What do your coolant crossover lines look like? What port on the head is the temp gauge in? #7 always runs a bit hotter.

For your power goal the stock rods will be fine. Arp rod bolts are great as long as you resize the rods accordingly, which it sounds like you will.

For 241's I'd recommend Advanced Indictions. They make great power with their CNC program. Use the BTR (Brian Tooley) platinum springs, titanium retainers, and shim accordingly for the cam you have.

 

Are you sure you have all the air out of the system? Where do you have your steam ports connected?

 

What temp is your fan coming on at? Is it working? Does it have low and high speed. You shouldn't be overheating, but, 210-230 isn't overheating but I can see how you'd want a tad more wiggle room.

 

I have the crossover tubes on and tied to the top of the WP.

The fans are on a switch and I turn them on when I get the motor fired.

I don't remember who made the radiator. I'm checking on that.
