Hot cam for the Z06

Default Hot cam for the Z06

I just ordered a hot cam from GMPP for my Z06. I know...I know, the cam sucks but, I wanted a mild cam that I could use with the stock valve springs and have a nice lope at idle. The extra ponies are a nicety. BTW, what can I expect in the way of extra ponies on an LS6 with headers?

To be honest, I don't know how much of a noticeable gain you're going to get over the LS6 cam you already had in your car... from what I've seen, the Hot Cam and the LS6 cam produce very similar peak numbers, the only difference being that the Hot Cam has a little more punch in the midrange and makes a lot more noise.

If you want to keep your LS6 Springs, drop in a GMPP ASA cam. That with your heads would be sweet. It's 110lsa and big split will give ya all the lope you can handle.

I agree... ASA cam would be great if you're looking for a very lopey idle, a good power increase that you'll be able to use your stock springs with, and will work well with your LS6 heads.

OK, ASA cam it is. I guess I should have asked the question before I ordered the cam.

Does anyone know the GM part # for this cam? Thanks.

Thanks for the part number. I looked it up and it just says camshaft. I wonder why it's not listed as a performance part like the hot cam?

I agree with this and I'm against the ASA Cam.

You have a perfect Z06 and want to get a lope out of it with a bad driving/low power Cam Why not get a custom made Cam that will lope alittle and make great power?All without drivability issue's!
A 228/230 with .540 lift on 112 duration would kill a ASA Cam,lope good and no idle/low speed drivability issues.Of course I would just do the valve springs for a piece of mind and run a .580 lift instead.

Just buy a correct H/C kit. There are a lot better cams than a hot cam for a Z06.

What do you want it to do? What are you HP goals. What other mods do you have...

I don't want anything too radical. I talked with Lou at LG Motorsports and he told me he was running the ASA in his race car. He said it has to idle at around 1200 rpm. This cam sounds like a monster.

I'm looking for 400 rwhp and a nice lope at idle. My mods will be LG long tubes w/no cats, a K&N intake and 180 stat. My last bone stock dyno was 357/357. If I can get 400 without doing a cam that requires heavier valve springs I would be happy.

dude thats crank horsepower there is a difference....he was talking about rwhp not crank horsepower....ANYWAY back to subject lol

Well the cam is here. I guess I have two choices, I can either send it back or try to sell it to one of my LS1 corvette buddies.

After checking out the specs on the ASA cam I've decided that would be a little to nasty for my tastes. So I've spent the whole day researching and have changed my mind (yet again) and have decided on the TR 224/114. Looks like it produces good numbers and will pass emissions with a good tune. It seems everyone who has one of these is happy with, at least until they outgrow it.

Trying to pick a cam is like trying to pick a women. You really want to try before you buy!

If you're gonna go ahead and change the springs, step up to a 228 or 230 duration cam at the very least.

I don't know but I bet a Hotcam with those heads and a set of headers would be fine. I think I would just buy some sticky tires and a set of headers and call it a day, Z06's are already fast in straight line and especially the corners.

A TSP 225 or 228 like 02SS said would be good if you gotta have a cam.
