First question, do you care about iron vs aluminum block?
Speaking as someone who has bored an iron 5.3 to a 5.7 bore, I say a better option is to start with a 6.0 iron block (LQ4 or LQ9 motor). Considering the cost to bore the 5.3 block (roughly $300), the overall price difference will be minimal. All other parts are interchangeable between the 2 motors.
If you want an aluminum block, then you are probably better off getting a standard LS1. Aluminum 6.0+ motors are more expensive and harder to find.
