The current setup in my 02 Z28 is a F-13 cam and Absolute Speed 5.3 heads (stock intake, lid, ported TB, stock injectors, stock bottom end, ported ls6 oil pump, LS2 timing chain, headers, ORY, Corsa Sport).

I'm pretty sure I spun a bearing at the track, maybe burnt a ring or 2.

Might as well tear it down and go with a forged 383.

Goals: turbo in the future and of course, budget. I'll spend what I need to but I'm not going all out on a Fast intake or turbo setup right now.

My question is, will the F-13 cam and the AS 5.3 heads be decent with a 383? Is that a good for a turbo in the future, or will I be looking at a H/C swap along with intake for a turbo in the future?

If the compression is high enough it should do pretty good, but then it would not be so ideal for a turbo down the road

 

It's 11.1:1 with the stock bottom end.

 

Just swap the heads and cam when you go turbo. The boost is going to make the power, so pull the ported heads and aftermarket cam for stock 317's and an LS6 cam. Pocket the difference.

 

The 5.3 heads will be fine with a 383 setup. You can even keep this setup with the turbo if you run meth injection and keep the boost levels down.
