I am putting 853 heads on a 5.3 do I use the head gasket for a 5.3 or a 5.7 im betting im over thinking this
chevy head gasket I was looking at using 12589226

I used 5.7 head gaskets.

Be careful with what head bolts you use depending on the year of the 5.3. My 5.3 head bolts are all the same length.

That's an MLS head gasket. It will not work with the 853 heads as they have a notch on the deck surface.

You must use a composite style gasket when you have heads with a notch in the deck surface. You need the 97-01 Head Gaskets, P/N 12498543

You can use a fel pro MLS gasket but not a stock one. Graphite stock gaskets work on those heads as stated.
