Default Front crank seal POPPED out!!

I have an 02 trans am LS1. I installed heads and cam around 2 years - 5000 miles ago. Replaced all the seals, new timing set, ls6 valley cover, etc. Everything was fine till the other day when I noticed a bad oil leak.

I lifted up the car and noticed that the front crank seal popped out and was resting on the harmonic balancer.

What would cause it to popped out? Crankcase pressure or just a defective seal?

I was wondering if any one else came across this issue before?

Thanks

I've never hear of it. It sounds like something screwy with the PCV system.

Yup, crankcase is building pressure and that seal was the weak link. Check PCV setup as Paul said, and maybe run a leakdown test...

I had my seal pop out on the Dyno first time tuning with the Procharger. 5 quarts of oil everywhere Stock PVC system couldn't handle the extra blow by from the boost and the larger gap in my rings.

If your still N/A I would look in to what these guys said above. Check the PCV system and then do a leak down and compression test.

understandable with the forced induction, which would build crankcase pressure, not proper crankcase ventilation, especially on high millage engine with a little blow by, but n/a must been a bad seal.

Not necessarily, these engines are built tight! On my "first" start, oil started puking from the rear main seal, which I promptly tore down and replaced since the engine had sat awhile. After restarting, the new seal leaked just as bad. My problem turned out to be a combination of no PCV system and blank aftermarket valve covers. After adding a breather on each valve cover the leakage was gone...
