Default Ring job on 6.0 ls2

I picked up an ls2 out of a trailblazer ss. I'm wanting to put pmd rings from an ls2 vette. Are the pistons the same between these 2 6.0's? Also any help with direction on where to get the right rings is appreciated. Thanks

They may not be. I think there were different rings sets for different years/models. Some had a 1.5/1.5/3.0mm package, some had thinner. I think Hastings has a catalog that could help you out, or you could use a dial caliper and measure the ring thickness to verify.

Have you done a cranking compression test or leak down test. Unless the motor has poor ring seal then you might do more harm than good tearing the motor down and doing a at home rebuild. Also it's not exactly cheap to rebuild a LS motor, gaskets, seals, and replacing all of the TTY bolts, even a "cheap" rebuild starts to get expensive.

It spun a bearing so that's the reason. While it's apart I want it done

I'd say that's a pretty good reason. It seems like from time to time someone joins and wants to rebuild their motor just because it seems like a good idea. Good luck with your rebuild.

The Trailblazer SS is an LS2 and uses the thinner ring package.

Will the thinner rings still seal ok if I'm going for a 500rw NA build? I might spray a little nos in the future. Thoughts?

The stock LS2 rings are actually a very good ring for a factory application. For most people I recommend Mahle's Original replacement series which usually have a moly coated steel top ring instead on an iron ring, napier second, and they're pretty affordable. If you make more than 600 then step up to Total Seal AP with a nitrided steel top.

Thinner rings are good for sealing the combustion chamber. They conform to the bore better and reduce friction at the same time.

The GM replacements are good rings but expensive. I think that Mahle makes them for GM. The GM rings are a steel top ring with a napier second but I think they're around $250 for the set.
