Notching Oil Pan for Stroker

Default Notching Oil Pan for Stroker

#1 rod bolt is hitting the oil pan with no gasket and is just barely clears with the gasket.It's a 4" crank. It looks like I'm going to have to cut a piece out of the pan and have another welded on the outside...

Does anyone have any pics of there notched pans? Also how much clearance is recommended

I am using a 4.00 stroker crank as well and had an issue with the counter weights of the crank hitting the windage tray not the pan. I spaced the windage tray away from the crank with medium thick flat ground 8mm washers on the outer main cap bolt stand off studs and the problem was solved. Take a closer look at what it might be hitting because it's doubtful that the crank can hit the pan, just saying.

Has to be the windage tray. Did the same thing, spaced it off the main studs with 1 flat washer per stud. There are places to buy windage trays for bigger stroke cranks if you don't want to use washers.

Windage tray is spaced already. It is without a doubt the rod bolt on the #1 rod hitting the pan where the dimple is cast into the pan. .

It must depend on the rods or bolts that are used... some people have trouble and others dont

You could sand some material out of the dimple. It does seem to be hit or miss my Lunati crankshaft and Crower rods only hit the windage tray on #6 bolts.

My 4.125 SCAT Crank hit the (factory) pan as well. I just ground away material evenly until it did not hit any longer. The pan is very thick and can withstand a substantial amount being removed. Just make it uniform.

I had a 4.00 crank before but it did not hit the pan, just the windage tray, washers were the fix for that!

I got the grinder after it and took care of the problem. I got it to clear with no gasket so I should be good with the gasket
