Just wanna thank everyone for the advice and what to check out in the car. It all looked good and the bad "caliper" issue was a bad wheel bearing. Passed my mechanic, passed my transmission shop and I picked her up today!

Short lived excitement at least until this weekend. It goes into the shop for a little tune up on Wednesday.

I am going do the following.

Coolant flush ( should I use Dex cool or universal )
Plugs and wires ( what plugs w/ gap and wires are suggested or have been a good choice )
New wheel bearing
O2 sensor. ( any suggestions? , as I know some cars are picky with these choices as well )
Trans drain and fill ( suggestions for fluid and filter, and any additive?)
Then of course just a general inspection.

Love the car so far and sounds great. I won't be doing many modifications until next year. But I was thinking about just a SLP lid for now.. Seems like lots of people have it, if nothing else just to clean up the engine bay a bit, just wondering if its worth it

Thanks again. I'll get pics up as soon as she's out of the shop. Been raining all day and its filthy.

Just use Dexcool if the fluid coming out looks okay.

I wouldn't replace the O2 sensors until they need it. The stock ones are actually the best ones for these cars. They are temperamental...

No addictive on the trans. I'd run Valvoline Dex VI fully synthetic.

Plugs and wires... the GMPP plugs are very good and the NGK TR5s would be a cheap choice or upgrade to Iridium IX-TR5s or Denso IT18/IT20s would be better. Iridiums will last much longer than conventional plugs. But there is a huge cost differential. I'd only suggest that if you're not going to mod and you were going to just drive it for a while as changing the plugs is kind of a pain.

Congrats on your buy. I'm another new MN guy. I have been looking at these cars for a few years and just found the right one for me. I am picking up. 2000 ws6 with the 6-speed and only 56,000 miles for $10.5 I checked it out Saturday. I know what you mean about shopping for these, the asking prices are all over the place. I personally haven't seen one in the price range you got even with that mileage. And the one I'm getting I've never seen them that price with the low mileage. I'm excited just like you. Have fun with it I know I will

Thank you sir!

Got a code for bad catalyst. So it's bad somewhere. If OEM is best I'll get that otherwise I'll just get whatever orielly , auto zone, etc has in.

Dex VI it is..

Dexcool coolant ? Did these cars have the same lower intake issues as the 3100, 3400 and 3800?

Plugs. Meh. Whatever lasts 15,000-20,000 miles and is of good quality.. Did you mention wires? Sorry I'm not familiar with just the product numbers yet the iridium's in my girlfriends eclipse were $16/ a piece. So I'm used to expensive plugs, but wouldn't put them in unless I need them.

Yea. It seems like a good deal and the miles don't bother me as long as the rest of the car is solid, which it is. I would have loved to find a low mile one like you did, but I got over anxious and just had to have this one lol.. Its gonna be in storage in 3 months so I needed my fix before snowmobile season!!

Congrats on your buy too, I'll check out your thread when I get home from work!

Wanted one of these since I was in college in 2000... Well 14 years later I actually have one, lol , and so far worth the wait.

Dirty off and on rainy day but just a few snapshots.

Dexcool is fine. I flushed it from my car with 145k miles. As long as no air gets in, it won't corrode.

NGK TR5 or TR55 would be the plugs. Plug wires are GMPP 8mm Wire Set. Made by GM. About the same as the MSD wires, but better.

As for the O2 - you can do the Bosch replacements: http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...m-replacement/

Thanks, hoping we have a sunny week so that can get her all cleaned up.

So what's everyone's opinion on a shift kit and trans cooler? It seems to shift really nice and firm as it is.. Would it help anything, or take any stress of trans internals? As for the cooler, where is a good spot to mount it where it won't get blasted with debris or be in a weird spot that might cause leaking?

Yay or nay on the SLP lid?

Common issues to look out for:

Cracked dash pads
Cracked door panels
Broken ash tray lids
Broken center console lids
Broken flip-out cup folders
clear coat bubbling on a-pillar/roof area
Headliner damage from T-tops being off at highway speeds, rain, ect.

Common owner-caused flaws:
Look under the hood for marred up bolts, nuts, screws, ect. This is evidence of being owned by a tinkerer or means its been in the shop a lot. Not automatically a bad thing but get some background on it.

Faded exterior plastics around the windshield and wiper arms, weather stripping, ect. This means the car could have been stored outside. NOT a good thing.

Look for rust in the rear wells and on suspension pieces. Has it been driven in the winters/all weather?

Check all the fluids. Get it on a lift if you can and inspect it, look for leeks and rust, damage, ect.

Look for any signs of common dirt or gravel road travel.

Mileage and price are what people always talk about when it comes to cars. That's just the absolute basics. There's so much more to look for.

SLP is a great lid and probably one of the best made besides the blackwing. I see it as you have two options here go straight to an FTP or grab the slp. Trans cooler is a for sure thing I would do even before you go to the track, it's that important.

Mount the tranny cooler up in the air damn in front of the a/c condenser, and when you get it tuned you can have line pressure upped and torque management deleted and bark second gear at will ! Nice firm quick shifts

Just getting a little list here guys. Sorry about all the newbie questions..

NGK tr55 plugs. At what gap? Its giving 3 different ones on the site.
Prior to 2005 GM used .055 GAP spark plugs on all LSx motors (this size). Starting in 2005, they switched to .040 GAP plugs to provide a better idle when things like cheap gas are encountered. Either a .060, or .040 GAP plug will work in any LSX motor with the smaller GAP being best for daily driven, mildly modded cars.

And if it turns out to be an o2 sensor , should you replace both? Ie .. If the upstream is bad replace both up streams ...

And for future reference can you delete the code with aftermarket exhaust? Reason i ask is because I don't plan on having a cat on the exhaust , and would possibly even remove the cat on the stock exhaust but would like to have the code delete done so my ses light isn't on.. I'm guessing an email ( diablosport ) tune or HP tuners is the only way?

When you bring it in for a tune they can also tune your rear o2 sensors out so the check engine light is not on
