Ive gotten a few different answers about how much preload I need. Ive been told .003-.005, .020, and ive read .030 on here.......

What are you guys using?

 

Lifter has roughly .050 of travel....

Comp will tell you .004-.005.... Tried it.... not enough.

.020 works for the customers of mine that have them in their motors.

 

The problem is if you have aluminum block and heads and you set them cold at .005 as soon as the engine heats up you will have about .005 lash. The block and heads grow about .010 so you would need at least .015 preload. So .020 to .03 would work well.

 

I used ~.035" on my Johnson Short-Travel lifters.

 

Are these 875-16's you're talking about here?
