timing chain cover fitment
Some clear and some don't, my Rollmaster double fit with out and grinding. I would pull all 8 spark plugs, install the the timing set, torque the cover on and roll the engine over with a socket wrench a bunch of times. Remove the cover and look for contact, also turn down the radio and listen for contact as well.

When you use a double, you have to use the oil pump spacers to clearance the pump away from the timing set. The pump is moved forward far enough with the spacers that it will hit the front cover. It's been awhile since I've clearances one, but I remember a couple of the oil pump bolts hit and a portion of the pump outlet into the engine hit. Button head bolts will help.
The timing set isn't going to hit the front cover on the Gen III engines, but it usually will hit the oil pump right behind the pickup, even with the spacers. The Melling pumps are usually clearanced already, but you'd want to check anyways.

I was always told the chain would hit the cover around the cam gear. FYI... I'm running a TSP ported LS6 oil pump with OEM bolts and the chain clears the cover and the pump with the spacers inplace.
