Best I can tell, Looks like .015" of depth to the gouges in the worse spot. There is a slightly raised area too, so the runout gauge is not the be all and end all of measurements, but that is as close as I can get it here.
Whats a parts list, if anyone has the time, I would need to save the block?
It has been decked already, and is a known good block so to speak.
Would be new cam bearings, and at least one head. It currently has 706 heads on it from the numbers I can see.
Crank and rods, pistons/rings, and ??
The only thing that makes any sense at the moment is a hydrolock or a bad rod. The wiring was hooked up, but no fuel line. Would there have been enough fuel in the injector(s) to cause this? I doubt it but....
Without KNOWING the cause, I am hesitant in reusing this stuff at the moment....

BTW, current bore is 3.795"/96.41mm from my digital calipers. Pistons have "H856CP .50mm" stamped in them. Got the hole rebuild kit from my local machine shop, and they are known to only sell USA/well made stuff.

706 castings are said to be prone to cracking..could that have caused hydrolock?

No idea on the heads.
It had the coolant drained, but could have cracked while sitting and leaked the coolant from the head into that cylinder? Only sat in the hot weather, so no chance of freezing etc.
Debating whether to rebuild or buy the atk 408....

If you have the funds, a shiny new 408 would quickly wash away any bad memories of a LM7. Just weird that you have a rod and piston broken with no real "event" that caused it.

Very much agreed on the cause. That is the part that is driving me really nuts, more so than the motor itself to be honest.
ATK show $3600 delivered to my door, with no core charge, for their version.

Think I may be able to get a member discount or something, so I would aim at under $3.5k for a "new" built motor with warranty. It will never see any form of boost etc, no room! So it would (should) be a reliable motor with decent power and torque, along with my LS6 intake.

The mystery continues....

That looks like a beast for your application. Lots of torque and OEM-like parts for reliability. I wish they would've shown lower RPMs on the dyno graph. This motor probably is impressive even before 2000..but some folks just don't understand that we can't all live in 3000+ RPMs all the time.

Agree 110% on the upper RPM dyno HP numbers, but the torque looks like it is already flattening out by that 3k RPM.
For that kind of money, I thinks it's hard to beat unless using lots of good used parts etc.
If anyone has direct experience with them, let me know!

Well, picked up a low mileage LQ4 from a 2006 Yukon Denali yesterday for a great price. Swapped exhaust manifolds over, new front and rear main seals, and this is how it sits right now.

We checked, and "think" it has the dished pistons in it, but no extra spacer in the rear of the crank.... Either way, LQ4 or 9, it will work good.
Just to prove I aint no quitter!
