Default need help: car got hot then wouldn't start

Long story short the car got up to 230/240 temp so I pulled over and shut it off. Turns out my fans didn't kick on. So let the car sit for 15 min to cool off then when I tried to start it, it would fire then die. Try again and give it gas and would sputter and die. Thought I ran out of gas so I waited about 20 more mins for gas and before they got to me I tried again, it started and surged a few times then idled. The car only took 5 gals of gas so it wasn't out of gas but after I put gas in, it started up fine and I drove it the last few blocks home. Wtf is that all about?

Well....230-240 is absolutely nothing for an aluminum blocked engine/heads.....my 427ci saw a buried needle all the way to the right in the red 3 times while doing top end runs when my serpentine belt came off a few times.......The engine was completely fine and lasted another 7-8 years no problems.

You did nothing to the engine and block from the slight overheat.

But who knows how hot it really got...these temp gauges are sometimes WAY off. If its running ok again.....I wouldn't sweat it.

It's a 6.0 iron block, not aluminum. I'm not too worried about it as it didn't even puke any fluid out. It was my fans not turning on is what made it get that hot but I'm baffled as to why it didn't start for the first half hr/45 mins till it cooled down.

But good to hear about yours, makes me deff feel better about it!

I don't know if it's possible with a fuel injected engine but on carb engines they could get hot enough to boil the fuel in the lines causing vapor lock.
