Default tips on porting 799 heads

Ok I've got a set of 799 heads that I'm looking to match port and polishing and blend the valves, I know I don't need to take very much out of the intake ports to match the high ram intake, but the exhaust side will need the most porting, are there any spots in the that I should be carful with besides the lower part on the exhaust ports? and I've never ported heads before but there no place around my neck of the woods that wont charge out the nose, so I'm going to give it a shot

IMO, get some damaged heads that have at least a few good chambers and ports on them that you can practice on first with the proper tools, and the more practice the better!

Do this ^^^^^ before ever thinking of touching you perfectly good stock heads . When you get enough practice that a professional head porter thinks you've done a good job, then and only then, would I would say give it a try.

IMO, my best recommendation to you is to do what I stated above, or don't touch the heads at all.

I have seen a bunch of stuff about how to port your own heads. A quick google search such as "porting 799 heads" will also get you a lot of information. I agree with bluz28 on getting some junk heads to practice on.

There are too many good places to send them for cheap to mess up a set in my opinion. If you don't have a flow bench you could very well be pissing in your own face. Chances are, if you are on a tight budget you purchased used heads like I do. They usually need other work anyway like a good valve job or mill so they should be sent off anyhow. Lloyd Elliot is budget friendly and easy to deal with on shipping.

Ah I guess that brings up the next question. Who has a few sets of junked 799 heads there willing to part with?

Use 863, 241, etc. The simple things you can do w/o messing yours up will be the same.

What tools do you have for porting?

I have all the tool and bit to do the job minus a flow bench, but I'm also the type of guy that likes doing as much of my own work as I can
