Default ls newbie

Alright guys...you have all probably had the same question asked...making more power from a 6litre with the least amount of money...i am on a strict budget...

So here is the scenario..i have a 87 monte carlo ss and wanted to be different ...so i want to go LS power...ihave bought a 6.0 and 4L80E out of a gmc 2500 Sierra for 700 bucks...im going to refresh the motor ...bearings, hone, linebore. .etc would like 450-500 at the wheels...im kind of a numbers dumby when it comes to cams. Now i have read a bit bout the l92 heads but i dont know...any help would be great and appreciated. It would be my weekend driver and like once a month at the strip.

LQ4 or LQ9 6.0L ?

The LQ4 has a dish piton and 9.5:1 compression. The LQ9 has flat tops with 10:1.

I wont know anything more until tomorrow when i pick up the combo and start tearing her down. Right know all i know is that its an iron block and head ls. Will keep you posted

A strict budget and 500 whp from a 6.0/ 4l80e isn't gonna work, the only way to make a realistic shot at that kind of power is with a set of tsp or tfs 225cc c&c ported heads, and a really aggressive cam. On top of that, you will need a fast intake.

As far as the l92 heads go, and this has been debated to death, imho the intake runners are to big for a 6.0, but if you built a 400 ci plus engine, they would be perfect.
