Default Help with cam choice

Ok guys, this is my first thread to post here. Just joined the site as a member. Have to say this site has, helped me many times before. I'm stuck in a situation here. First off to start I'm running a 5.3L in an 04 silverado with cam, headers, injectors, ported throttle body, lunati lifters, dual coil springs (650 lift), 3200 stall, dyno tune and 3.73 gears. The cam I just pulled is a 232/234 589/598 111LSA (Torquer V2) pulled to check for flat lobes. All lobes checked the same. Now, I have another cam sitting here. Specs are 236/242 580/590 111LSA...what's yall's opinion on running this in my 5.3L? I want to run it but nervous it might be too big for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a bad *** truck.. even the torquer 2 sounds a bit big for a 5.3 but ur still under 600 lift so can b to big i guess.. if the engine performed well with it then no reason not to go bigger, but i no if u mill the heads to bump up the CR it helps bigger cams as well.. lol what kinda numbers does she put down now?

Definitely wouldn't go bigger. You are already likely under performing for the TV2 cam due to the small stall converter coupled with stock compression ratio unless the heads were already milled.

For a bigger truck you may be better off finding a smaller cam. Like he said the TV2 seems like alot of cam for a heavy truck with a 3200.

Appreciate it man! That truck is my baby. Lol it runs great with the TV2 my only complaint is low bottom end torque/power. Which is expected running that big of a cam in that motor. With stock heads and all listed above, without the TBSS intake manifold I added a couple months ago she's putting just over 400. My next investment is ported and polished heads. That should open her up a lot more.

I am considering, dropping a 228/228 cam in her. I just want one that will talk to me the way that TV2 does. Lol the 228/228 is a way better match for that motor anyways.

I was able to tune lope sound into a 205/210 115+3 cam.

Sounds like you definitely answered your own question though. If you think it's lacking on bottom end power now, that other cam would really hurt your feelings.

Bigger converter would be a better choice than changing cams. Not sure who's converter is in there now but if it's a 278 mm chances are is way to tight for that cam.

The converter is a TCI 3200. Can't remember the other specs to it.

With that 5.3 in a heavy truck and a 3200 stall TC , I'd go smaller than a 228 and stick with a tight 110 lsa. Something along the lines of a TSP 224r with a 110lsa will totally eliminate the lack of low bottom end torque/power.
