Might as well go with a new build imo. If your on a budget u can see some of the sponsers we have on here. I believe tms has some pretty decent priced budget short blocks and u can re use ur old heads and stuff ..

What is your budget for this ?

Do you have a power goal or future NO2 or forced induction plans ?

Miles on current engine ?

Prob around 3k for the short block. 1 of the heads is pretty dinged up, So I think I'm going to get ls6 heads. No n20 but maybe forced down the road some time. Looking to get around for 450 - 500hp area

Generally between 80-105 lb difference going to an iron block. Not too bad for a street car, but it depends on who you are and what you want if the extra money will be worth it. Personally I'm just going to go with a iron block since my budget is tight, the price difference will cover the retune if I go to a different displacement.

For 3K I would rebuild your aluminum bottom end. Do you have a good machine shop local to you ?

If it went through the piston metal went through the engine. I'd tear it all down, get the block cleaned and rebuild.

The cylinder walls look fine, no scratches or cracks. A friend of mine said there is a decent machine shop here. There is about 80k on the motor.
what parts would you recommend for the rotating assembly?

also im going to get the block up to the shop as soon as i can and have them check it out.

You can do a nice built 347 for that amount. That is what I'm thinking for my self. Just makes sense. Not like the block is shot.

I would take them the block and crank and have it checked out, If those 2 pass I would rebuild your self.

Hone the block 3.903"-3.905"
Polish the stock crank
Reuse main bolts
Get a budget rod/piston combo
New lifters, timing chain, oil pump
Complete gasket / hardware kit
New rod, main, and cam bearings
That with machine shop charges should be in the $ 2,500-3,000 range

Call some sponsers and get some prices on parts and recommendations from them. Also ask your machine shop about their sources on parts and gasket kits. My machine shop has been great to fine me alot parts / gaskets for several engines I've done with them.

I would definitely re-use your block and crank assuming they made it through everything unharmed.

Forged rod's, pistons, a little machine work and a lot of love will get you a bullet proof bottom end.

if you can budget for more consider using your block with a ls 383 stroker assembly .check Texas Speed to get a good idea of what parts will cost .

It may be hard to beat this price after selling you block.

Although at the same time depending on how good of a deal you can get on a machine work and gaskets you may be able to build a 383 with a rotating assembly from TSP.

I am doing an Iron 347 right now and since you will be reusing your stock crank and block you will have a little advantage over me, but I searched around and found some deals and some specials and group purchases I got in on. I don't know your time frame will allow you to shop around.

5.3 shortblock $200
Diamond -2cc 3.905 pistons $300
Compstar 6.125 rods $500
Gasket kit $150-200 can't remember exactly
Katech Rod bolts 200
Melling oil pump $100
Ls2 chain $40
Cam $75

And all the machining work is still being quoted.
