Verify a sound for me.... Video inside The motor setup is a 2005 6.0 LQ4 with LS3 top end fed by a turbo. The transmission is a Rossler built powerglide. Converter is a PTC spragless converter and the flexplate is a SFI approved plate. (bought as a package deal not sure what brand it is and it says nowhere on the plate). Install is crank, flexplate, spacer, converter - been this way forever so i know its the right order and spacing is correct.
This all started when the motor ate a piston a month or so ago. I found a new junkyard motor and swapped it in. After the new motor went in it made a ticking noise from the flexplate area. Upon inspection, i noticed a ton of thrust play. Pulled the motor back out, replaced the main bearings and crank, and then re-installed everything. This brings us to yesterday. Started the car up, drove a block, and now i have the same noise.
Thrust movement is no longer there. I am to believe its a warped/cracked flexplate. Last night i pulled the transmission. Everything seems to visually check out ok. The only thing that i can think of is a warped flexpalte. I have no good way of checking the center of it to see if its warped or off kilter a bit. What does this noise sound like to you? You can visually see the flexplate wobbleing in the video.

Sounds like a flex plate problem. Are you sure the bolts are touching the flex plate? Even though they are tightened down if they too long the bolts will bottom out and the flex plate will shake a little making noise. I seen this before on new builds.
Try and give our guys a shout at support@tickperformance.com, I'm sure they could give you a good idea as what this could be and our tech guys are usually spot on with their diagnosis.
hey guys, i forgot i posted this thread up. I got the transmission back in the car with the stock flexplate. Long story short, the noise is no longer there. The flexplate seemed to fix the issue. However, the SFI one i removed looked to be good. I cant find any cracks or any major warping. I only went for a 15 minute drive last night since it was late, however usually the noise starts just a few moments into the drive. Hopefully its fixed. I will need to install a new SFI approved plate over the winter as well.
