Default Embarrassing to Post but Necessary Driving me insane...

Sorry for the long read... First off let me start out by saying i feel like a complete idiot for doing what i did in the first place!! So I had to change the oil pump in the car. Well I put some paper napkins in the oil pan so if would drop the pickup tube bolt it wouldn't roll to the bottom of the oil pan. Well I apparently left some in there and it clogged up the pickup tube. SOOOOO out comes the engine again!!!! Well i pull the pan and sure enough the pickup screen was clogged.. So after cleaning everything I got the bright idea to hot wire the starter and check for oil flow at the rockers and psi at the sensor. So im getting 40 psi while the engine turns over but im not getting oil to the rockers. After this long read my question is. Should I be seeing oil coming up to the top of the rocker while the engine is being turned over? HELP PLEASE!!!

P.S. I pulled the head and i am getting plenty of oil flow up the rear of the engine through the oil pathway...

Maybe not. If you have 40 PSI while cranking, I think you're alright. Oil getting through the pushrods is more a function of the lifters acting as individual pumps and cranking speed may not get them to the speed needed to pump up the shaft.

I did the same thing on a freshly built engine on a stand with no spark plugs and I got 50 PSI-and nothing to the heads.

Don't beat yourself up to back, You wouldn't believe how many shop rags have been left on pistons when people are doing head gaskets. Once I was helping a friend replace a timing chain on a carbed engine. We were almost done and as he was putting the carb on the engine he said he dropped a nut and swore it fell inside the carb, We looked in the carb and no nut.... Took carb off and looked in the intake and no nut... I tried to tell him it couldn't have got past the carb because the throttle blades were closed but he wouldn't listen so off came the intake and heads and still no nut. We decided to take a break and get something to eat at a local taco shop. When he pulled out his money a nut fell on the floor.... Yup...It was in his pocket the whole time!

Thanks guys for the help. Much appreciated. Next time I will use a regular rag and have the edges hang out of each side.

I agree with others. **** happens.

REmember these LS engines take a while to get oil out of the rockers. This is especially true once you install a oil pump. Its always best to prelude. The easiest port to pressurize is the one at the back of the intake. If you are **** about things, cut apart the oil filter. If the oil filter is clean just change new oil and filter and start it up.

Thanks again everyone. Oh and hopefully this doesn't have to be done any more but if for some odd reason I will try the fishing string trick.

Just today I dropped brake light with connector down a thin crevice in their car.

Hopefully today I can get the head back on and the motor ready to be stabbed.
