Well I am not in the market for those anymore so I suppose I don't feel too burned by the price I *was going* to pay.

That's a good price. When I was still building the 5.3 with 862s(got sidetracked with a deal on LS2), I was convinced I was sending my heads to Lloyd Elliot. See his price for heads, valves, springs, custom cam.. At this price you would think he has a goose that lays custom cams and springs but he's got a good reputation. These are your heads hand ported BTW.

Food for thought.

They do. They have a 64cc chamber as opposed to the 61cc chamber of the 862s. They also have larger valves and better ports. However, they are also commanding 4X the price of used 862s and 241s. So, you need to decide if you truly want to pay the extra money or find your power elsewhere.

They were probably cracked. Tell yourself that and you'll feel better.

When I was house hunting and lost out on a couple homes, I just told myself the house was haunted anyways.

There are times I wish I had gone with Trick Flow or AFR instead of going the LS3 route. Actually, had I known about the ability to get Trick Flow heads with the powdered metal guides to utilize OEM rockers, I probably would have picked up a set of the As-Cast heads.

Oh well.

The 243's did need to be done but i didn't mind that those CNC heads are catching my eye, that is the way i was going to go with a set of aftermarket heads. I wanted AFR;s, but they are just to much right now. This is going to be a budget build but i don't mind spending a few extra bucks on a good set of heads. The way i look at it when you buy aftermarket heads, just bolt-on them on no problem or worries.

Anybody here have any experience or hear anything on the MS3 cam? i have been watching some videos with guys using this cam in the 5.3's, it sounds awesome for starters, seems to be a good cam for these 5.3 from what i have seen.

Lloyd milled my 862's and I added some flat top pistons and of course a decked block and achieved 11.32:1 compression. Awesome portwork and money saver. Loving the 200 shot with it right now.

Going to do something similar to those WCCH 5.3 as a winter project . I'm going hand port them , valve job , 1.57 exhaust and LS1 2" stock valves with a back cut on the intake side. Mill them to get a 57 cc on the chamber .

Can you run a large cam such as the MS3/MS4 or Trex with a 5.3 and 243 heads?

Shouldn't be a problem for stock 243s to physically run those cams. You would need spring, pushrod upgrades and of course check your PTV clearance, especially if you mill them. Are those the best cam for those heads in your application? Maybe not. You said you are going to run almost 200HP nitrous so you might want to start looking at a cam specifically designed to maximize that.

I know i said that i was going with nitrious but knowing me i would proably only spray it with a 100 shot or less. For some reason or another i keep thinking that i will blow it up with spray..
