Default Need advice for ls1 h/c/i

I just bought a 2000 Z28 A4 with 58k miles. So far I've got the kooks headers and dual setup, slp cold air kit and lid, bmr Subframe connectors, Panhard bar, and lcas.
Next step is tranny upgrade with at least a 3600 stall and a strange s60.
After that I'm ready for heads, cam, and intake. I've seen so many setups and brands and am looking for suggestions and experience with similar setups.
The car is not a daily driver.

Well with a 3600 stall get 3:73 gears at least, next your cam choice get something that has good power starting around 3600 rpms and talk to Martin. Heads from what i hear you need to talk to Tony Mamo again from what i read he is top notch and knows his ****.

Basically everything needs to line up. Starting power needs to be around 3600 rpms bc thats what kinda stall you have. Also make sure you get a bigger trans cooler from B&M.

My engine took a **** on me, failed the leak down test. However I've asked and asked many of questions. I also started with a 3600 stall so i built my car around that to line everything up correctly.

Hope this helps, others will chime in.

I'm going with 3.73 gears. I haven't bought the stall yet, but I know I'm going at least 3600. Maybe 4k

Go with at least a 3800 stall and 4k would be even better...3.73 is a good gear!

For Heads: AI 243 or TEA 243 are good options for stock casting. AFR 210 , TFS 215, PRC 215 would be good aftermarket options.

Cam: something around a 228/232 112 with lift around .590-.600 would be good. Go with a less aggressive lobe.

Valvetrain: keep it light! Read the sticky!!

Intake: LS6 works well but a Fast will net a decent gain.

As for the gears 4.11 if really tall tires at the track 4.30 with the a4 trannie. For converter for street 3,400 is best specially with 4.11 or taller gears.

It just works tighter and peppier without much slippage.

Then you are ready for heads and cam.

In the mean time you'll be kicking some buts without much suspicion by the victims.

You don't really need that much gear for a stalled auto I'd go with either a 3.42 or 3.50. Many people have gone from stock 3.23 of 3.73 gears and gained less than a tenth in the quarter in a stalled A4 f body.

It's not about gains more so better drive-ability. A 3.73 makes a bigger stall much nicer to drive.

I'm willing to spend what's necessary for a reliable combo that makes the power and I don't have to keep working on it.

Well heads can range from 1k to 3k, so that's something to consider for starters

I'm willing to go over 5k. 7500 would probably be the limit.

3k will get you around 400-420whp (Ported 243's, 228/232 cam, LS6 intake)

4k - 440-460whp (Stage 2 243's, 228/232 cam, Fast 92/92)

5k - 480-500whp (Mamofied AFR 205's, 234/242 cam, Ported Fast 92/92)

7500 can get you a fully forged LS1 or LQ4. If you go LQ4 510-530whp should be obtainable on that coin.

all reliable setups done right...choose your goal and go from there.

I would step up to a 4k stall. It is very drivable. Consider circle D.

There are many options for heads. You can go AFR, Trickflow, PRC heads. Othet great heads that people sleep on are WCCH, Livernois, TEA.

As far as cam goes... will you be daily driving your car? Or is this gonna be a straight up drag car? I think something like a TSP Torquer 2 232/234 would be a good size to run.

Only difference between your idea and mine is about two car length ahead in competition if you can life with that I hear you.

I'm not afraid of 4k. The car isn't a daily driver so I'm willing to go further than most with a daily driver.

Built transmission from a Good shop
Yank 4000 stall PT series
Transmission cooler
Bigger transmission pan

Strange s60 with 390 gear
lower control arms- you already got
pan hard bar- you already got
adjustable torque arm

Find some 243s or 799s Have them sent to a Good shop for porting and Valve job
All new gaskets
A nice cam kit with all accessories Springs locks retainers etc
Push rods
New lifters
New oil pump
ls6 timing chain

Fast 90 or 102 intake and throttle body

Are you doing the work your self or having a shop install everything ?
