Default 5.3 Cam Swap

I have a 2000 GMC sierra 5.3 4l60e looking to do a cam swap
Wanting to keep the stock stall which locks up at 1600
Swapping to LS6 springs and hardened pushrods.
I'm just unsure of what cam will work best with the stock stall
I've heard I'd be fine using comp cams 54-408-11 cam which has specs of 206/212 and .515/.522 on 112lsa and operating range 800-5800
But I'd like to have a choppier idle and I'm looking to spin to at least 6000rpm
The other cam that I'm unsure would work with a stock stall is Comp Cams 54-416-11 which specs are 220/224 and .530/.534 on 112lsa and has operating range 1600-6600
Would this bigger cam work with a stock stall that locks up at 1600?

Interesting!!! I would do a Tooley stage 2 truck cam. It'll have that sound you looking for but offer a good solid torque gain.
Specs are 212/218 .553/.553 113+2

Or if you dare to go a little bit bigger his stage 3 truck cam. Specs are 218/224 .553/.553 113+3

IMO, with the stock stall I'd just go with the BTR Stage 1 truck cam. You really need more stall than that (2600-3200k) if you go with a bigger cam.

It'd only be temporary running the stock stall for a month or two until I have enough money saved up to build the transmission. This is my daily and it needs head gaskets so I figured since I'd be pulling the heads off I might as well throw a cam in. I just don't know how the cam would affect the drivability on a stock converter

You seem to missunderstand lockup vs. stall.

You understand a decent stall for an LS variant probably starts at $600-700, and the tranny will easily be 1500.

I daily my crew cab with a 4000 yank in it. Its not bad, once its locked i get ~18 mpg.

Id run the EPS Truck Torque level 2, then when you can a 3200 or 3600 would work great with it. Also rear gear plays a role too in how well the truck will drive/perform
