LQ4 mods ( again )
my son has a 2000 LS1 Trans am & T56 ..... ( LS6 intake )
he bought an 02 LQ4 complete to transplant in the T/A.
I think that if I port & shave .040 off the 317`s , + LS6 intake ,it would give good results and he could keep his LS1 complete ....
1) should I modify the 317`s or the 241`s and why ?
2) on an LQ4 what is the max safe lift ? ( with shaved 317`s )( for cam choice )
we`re on tight budget ,heads are either 241 or 317 , no head swap.
cam , springs & lifters will be changed,

what pistons are being used? Stock? Flat top? With or with valve reliefs?
What kind of compression are you after?
Have an idea of what cam you want?
Once you know these best advice is call the sponsors. Give them your specs and what your looking for. They should be able to tell if it will clear ptv or not. But still check it ! Doesn't take long.
the engine having 45k milles the original pistons will stay in there ....(stock bottom end )
the 317`s would be milled .040
we are looking at around 10,25 :1 ....
The cam will be choosen depending on valve to piston clearance
I asked because tons of people here played in these engines
it should be a well known factor .....

And yes tons of people have been around these cars but you need to be more specific in order to get the best answer. Vendors will give you the best answer. That doesn't mean other people on here can't help though. I look at similar setups, what kind of mods and power they make. Also ask people on here but I always end asking a vendor before I buy. Just my two cents.

I tought that milling .040 off the 317`s would be a safe limit
and @ .040 it gives around 10,25
id prefer 10,75-11,0 , but then I thought that I would have to use the 241`s to obtain these numbers
personnally for 20 cubic inches I woulndt go true all this ....
At least I gained that he wont put 5.3 heads on the LQ4 for even more money spent ....

@ Fry: at first »I suggested him to port & slight mill the 241`s ,
put a better cam ,injectors ( if needed ) and & tune
he would have been totally satisfied with this ,.......... but .......
