Default CA smog cam

Looking for suggestions towards a nice cam for a H/C build on my stock Ls1 that can pass smog. hoping for 400+ rwhp. Anyways I did research but most threads on this topic are out of date

I posted this in another CA cam thread:
Imo, get a custom grind in a 218/226 115lsa+2, it'll have -8* overlap a IVC of 42. This would be well suited for passing the sniffer, only having a light cam sound, and working well with restrictive exhaust manifolds an factory catalytic converters in conjunction with a good set of heads like a set of AI cnc ported factory heads or AFR 210 with a SCR of 11:1 up to 11.5:1. and a FAST 92 intake manifold. I can't guarantee you'll hit 400 rwhp, but I doubt you'd be very far off. I believe you still need to run factory TB to be pass the smog visual check. So I'd use a CBM tapered bore adapter the mount it to the FAST 92 intake, so you don't induce any turbulence and see better hp gains.

As far as cam lift at least .590" but under .620" for the intake lobes and .570"-.600" for the exhaust lobes. Have EPS spec a custom grind, or go with Cam Motions own lobes.

I helped a friend install the following on his very low mile 2004 ZO6; LPE ported 243 heads, LPE 215/231/.631/.644 118LSA cam (-13* overlap), American Racing 1.75 headers/high flow cats with the 2.5" x-pipe stock Ti mufflers. With the 100% stock intake & TB, the car made 417 RWHP. The car idled & drove like stock, yet pulled hard to 7000 rpm.

But I would go with a Cam Motion cam with less lift & a quieter lobe, as this cam had a bit too much valve train clatter.

Pretty sure EPS sells the 218/226 .595"/.598 as a shelf grind....listed as truck torque...the older Comp ground one I run is @ 117 + 3 deg and would fit your California type emissions.

cali smog has changed, 2000 and newer just hooks up to the OBD2 port. no sniffer test. as long as all the readiness monitors are on then you should be ok. but dont quote me on that. not sure if tuning affects the test or not.

Yeah Cam Motion grinds the EPS cam and their both about the same as far as ramp rates, and yes the EPS TT2 is a option, but I'd still go with a slightly wider lsa and less advance for a higher IVC and a little more negative overlap to work better with the more restrictive exhaust and a little more assurance that it will pass the sniffer. Even if it isn't required for the model year to have the sniffer test done it would be wise to keep the negative overlap up for a stealthier sound so the smog tech doesn't think something fishy is up and send you to a smog reff.
Btw, thanks for the correction.

Have you made any decisions or narrow anything down yet?

True, I confirm this... no roller/sniffer test.

( I'm wondering if they also read the checksums/CVN's and compare to previous values or database values )

Now, lets say the smog ***** read those numbers. The PCM could be rewritten to ignore them, rendering them useless. I'm surprised this hasn't already been done.

Also, I wonder what would happen if someone rolled in with big choppy cam at the smog shop. H aha.
