5.3 block, your thoughts
Hello guys, like many been an old school sbc guy for years. But now time out with the old in with the new.. Going this weekend to buy a 2004 5.3 block.. Has been clean and honed already by a local machinist whom I know.. I'm learning the LS stuff so bare with me.. Guy wants $150 for the block.. Good deal?? I think so.. It will need to bore tho, one cylinder has minor pitting. Maybe 10-15 tho at most what the machinist said.. The guy was selling block only because he built him a another 5.3 using his stock rotating assembly.. He did not trust the one cylinder with the pitting and choose not to bore block, so I will..lol..
Now I've read several times a 5.3 block can be bore 118 tho to a 3.89.. I would have block sonic check, but nobody around here in my area has a sonic checker..
Plans on build will be turbo , going into a back half 67 prostreet camaro.. Your thoughts and opinions.. Researching pistons now, I'm planing on useing a stock LS crankshaft when I find one..

Honestly, I would pass on that block. Boring from 3.78 to 3.90 is a lot of machining, this cost me $300 a couple years back.
For the $450 you would have into this block, you can get a bare 6.0 block if you shop around. The 6.0 block may still need a slight hone, however you'll have a much better block to start your project.
The crank, rods, engine covers, accessories, etc. are the same on 5.3 and 6.0 motors also FYI.

A 6.0 was what I was wanting originally. 6.0 blocks are scarce not as popular to find as the 5.3 around my area anyway.. So thought the 5.3 would be easier more available
