Need some advice
Bought a 00 ls1 from a guy in 09 sight unseen but supposedly in great shape. Took delivery of motor and everything looked to be legit. Had some personal issues so motor sat in a shed for a few years. Recently get my project on track and install motor. Starts and runs good. But no oil pressure at idle and very little at 2500rpm. After exhausting a few potential causes decide to pull motor and send to a machine shop. Gotta be a bearing right?
Machine shop has motor for 6 weeks now. Very sketchy with contact. Today I speak with them and they say "we found the problem, it's a common issue with these motors" but they refuse to tell me the problem. They tell me my only option is to have them do a short block refresh at $2195.
Well that seems high to me for one. But my biggest issue is they won't tell me what they found to be the cause. They treat it like its a trade secret. My thought are there has to be a considerable amount of trust with an assembler. How do I know what they put in the motor with out tearing it apart. And if they will not tell me the problem to begin with I'm not feeling the trust.
My gut feeling is to go down there and pay for their time up to this point but tell them not to touch my motor and take it to another shop.
Does this seem reasonable, am I overreacting?
