Forged rods and Pistons

Forged rods and Pistons
I'm thinking about getting some budget forged rods and Pistons while the engines out. The engine has already been worked by the machine shop and its back at the shop for assembly. If I get the new rods and Pistons instead of using the stock stuff will the block need to be further machined and honed, is there something that needs to be done to the rods and Pistons? I'm not going with bigger Pistons.

- Big end of the rods
- Small end of the rods
- Pistons and pins (don't forget to include the rings in the total weight)
- Then balance the crank to the new weights.
Unless you're going to be racing, there's really no need for the added expense and work.

Best budget friendly option is SCAT forged rods (~$350) and off the shelf Wiseco forged Pistons (~$650 with rings). The only thing that might need to be done to the bore is line honing to get the correct piston to cylinder wall clearance for the thermal expansion of the forged pistons. Typically they are installed with slightly more tolerance than a factory cast piston. Ask your machinist what the bore size is and find out what clearance you need for the wiseco pistons, and buy something the correct size for your currently honed cylinder, or something a tad larger and have the machinist line hone it until the clearance is correct, If I recall the piston to wall for a 4032 alloy on a 3.9ish inch bore will be like 0.003 in. The clearance is also chosen based on if its NA, nitrous, or forced induction and the intentions you have for the engine. Look at manufacturers recommendations.
