GM uses a nasty green thread locker and it sticks in there good. They have since 97. I have about 10 old bolts I made into thread chasers due to the massive amount of AFM lifters going bad. I work at a dealership and we see 5 trucks a week with collapsed lifters. Being TTY, the thread locker gives false tq readings

I'm in a similar situation... I need to change the head gasket. I'm replacing the bolts with the Chinese studs. I don't wanna spend that much on the ARP chaser, and am a little worried about cutting slots into the stock bolts. Cutting would result in burrs in the threads... (maybe I can find a nut that size to remove the burrs).
The wire brush sounds like a bad idea too (steel will mess up the aluminum threads). Do you guys think a nylon brush would work?
Alternatively, does anyone have a use ARP chaser they wanna sell? (just the m11, I'm not too worried about the m8 holes)

Maybe cut the bolts and run a die on it? And then manually inspect the bolts for burs and take off the burs by hand with a small file.

Every time i've done it the bolt was already cut and used. Someone on this thread may just donate a bolt they've cut, cleaned, and used already to chase bolts.

And I hope you don't get jumped by the other members of this forum for using the china studs. Be careful with those.

This is for cleaning threadlocker and other gunk out of the holes in response to people saying they run taps and chasers in the threads to do it. This is not for repairing threads.

Just pony up $60 and do it right. It kills me that people are so God damn cheap and willing to potentially destroy a engine worth several thousand dollars over $60. Same with cheap lifters etc. ***** it just slap it together and use all your old $hit and be puzzled and bitch when it doesn't hold up. Buy once cry once.

Way over thinking this. Slot a factory bolt. Hit it with a wire wheel, if concerned about burrs. Good to go. Run it in the hole. You'll be amazed at the crap that get pulled and fills the slots. Wire brush the slots and repeat. BTW - no need to cry! Bolts are free.
