Default Cams Cams Cams...

It really seems like a beaten dog kind of subject, But what would be the best cam and head combination for a DD that sees the track every once in a while? Both would be put onto a 2002 Trans Am WS6 A4 LS1 with around 110k miles on it. Are there any big modifications that should come soon after? The car is completely stock, other than a Magnaflow muffler that the original owner had installed on it, and a B&M shift kit. I'm not the wisest when it comes to talking about this kind of stuff, so please excuse my ignorance. I do have a basic knowledge on how an engine works.

A tsp 228 with ported 243 heads would be a nice street combo. But first get a stall. 3600-4000 would make the car very fun on the street.

Goal really is just to stay somewhat competitive on the streets while still having a reliable DD. Budget....Lets say is modest, Nothing over 4k. How reliable is the rest of the driveline seeing track days with certain cams and heads?

Go with converter first. 3500 to 4k

Get bolt on's, a 3600-4000 rpm torque converter, and suspension taken care of first then worry about heads and cam. But just to throw out a suggestion PRC 225 as cast heads and Tick's LS2 Spec SNS stage 2 cam.

I would say get a stall first, 3600-4000 range, and make sure you transmission is up to par. Get all the basic bolt-ons along with a good tune.

I run 11.6 at the track with a LS6 cam and stock heads. Car drives like stock and is a sleeper on the street

Martin put a great combo together for me.. Look at my mods in sig. Couldn't be happier with my set up. Like others have said you won't be disappointed with 3600 stall converter first and even a new rear gear..
