Default Crack or Gouge?

I know it's hard to diagnose over the internet but do you think below is crack or a gouge? Neighbor says a crack, I'm leaning towards that as well...

Defiantly a cracked cylinder. And that piston probably has a pinched ring land besides the obvious damage.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of.

New sleeve and piston or just junk it? First rodeo tearing into an engine.

Daily Driven Weekend Warrior to sum it up. Looking at a LQ4 swap since the PCM will be able to control from what I've read...

LQ4 and LQ9's are gold around here. I have a lead on one or two and I doubt they will be worth it.
