Has anyone ever seen a spark plug strap offset like in the picture? Spark plug was installed properly and everything. Came off a lq4, cammed out and heads. Ms3 cam. The plug is in the number 8 cylinder. Any ideas what would cause this?

 

Could a ring land have cracked and pinched that against the piston crown?

 

Foreign body in the cylinder? Does it look like it got hit or overly hot?

 

bingo, pulled the heads and cranked ringland. Plugs got too hot.

 

Same thing Mercier said I just went further in suggesting the source of the piece flying around.

Good call! Well...bad call depending on if you're the one paying to fix it. Any other damage in there or just the piston and plug?

 

Haha yea sucks but i already pulled the engine out and replaced the pistons! Ready to go back in action! Find out the 706 heads i bought are milled .060 so that explains a lot!
And no other damage just the cracked pistons and spark plugs!

 

Holy cow. That's like eleventy billion compression there. I was planning on 862s milled .030 and them moving to LQ4 and figured that would put me north of 11.5. You go back with some further dished pistons or different heads?

 

got a set of l92's coming in!

and lol yea the truck was running 20* degrees of timing on 93 and it melted the plug, imagine what fricking compression it had.
