Help identifying an L33
I found an engine which is a great deal if it is an l33 and a mediocre deal for an lm7. It is about 2 hours away so I am trying to identify it before I waste 4+ hours driving. I was told by the seller that it has an aluminum block. However, I know it is in an 05 Silverado 2wd. I have also been told that L33s only came in 4x4 vehicles. I am still waiting on a vin number. Does anyone have any good info on this? Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

Only available in 2005, 2006 & 2007 4x4 extended cab Silverado & Sierra trucks. VIN code "B".
The L33 has an aluminum block, uses a flat top piston from the 4.8L instead of the standard dish piston found in the LM7. This made the CR 10.0:1. It also had a higher lift cam. This all resulted with 310HP.
If it's a 2 wheel drive truck, it'll have a iron block and 295HP.

what paul said, IIRC the Aluminum L33 which is commonly referred to as the "vortec high out put" or "VHO" was only available in 4wds. that being said unless it was motor swapped the truck should have an Iron block.
The L33 should have 799/243 heads. Have the seller send you pictures of the head casting number.
