Default cam worth it with stock converter/full bolt ons/3;23

I have a 99 t/a with full Bolton's/3;23/stock converter . Is a cam upgrade worth it with stock converter. I know you can't go with the biggest cam with stock stall. New era recommended there street sweeper package for my setup. I would go with converter but hesitant without tranny rebuild seeing I have 132k on my car. I know some have done converter at these miles before with no problems but would rather do rebuild to be safe. Tranny rebuild/converter($2500) SSHT cam package ($900 ish buddy/ I could install $150 retune). More affordable right now. As far as I can recall the HP diff between the cams ( big vs small) was like 15 HP? What kind of approx e.t. improvement would I see with SST cam? Believe new era said 35hp? Is that at motor or wheels? Just going by what I've read and info told to me so plz share your thoughts? If its not wise to do it this way let me know. thx

I would spend the money on a converter and upgraded tranny rather than a cam. Will be no fun to throw a cam and than your tranny giving out.

I've got to agree. Spend the Money on the trans/converter first.

I think it has to do more with the running condition of the trans and how you plan on using the new setup. If your wanting 1/4 mile times at the track then sure the stall and a rebuild is the way to go. If you just do alot of highway pulls and roll racing then a smallish cam like the street sweeper or the Lingenfelter GT2-3 that I ran will work great. There was a noticeable power increase from off idle to 6200rpm where the trans shifted and drove like stock on the stock converter. I actually got the same if not better fuel mileage on daily driven trips to and from work of roughly 110 miles a day. With 3.23 gears it consistently give 20-22mpg.

In my Caprice I did a ZZ4 cam with stockgears and stall. Stock was 191/195 ZZ4 cam was 208/221 car wasn't any faster till I gave it stall and gears. Even with a cam that small a 2800 stall Edge was worth .7.
