Default gen 3 vs gen 4 5.3l pistons,why is one bigger?

Just curious as to why the floater pistons are slightly larger than the earlier pressed pin pistons. The bore sizes are the same in the blocks arent they? is there some kind of significance with having the slightly tighter skirt to wall clearance if thats the case? I know .1mm isnt much, but they must have had some reason im assuming

Weren't the later ones coated?
Suspect a little larger to quiet piston slap.
