Default Melling 10296 blue or red?

Im about to do small cam and stock 243 heads on my 02 120k mile ws6, now ive been seeing in alot of threads about the melling 10296 pump which is high vol high pressure and they recommend swapping out the red spring for the blue spring.

I want to see how many people out there are running the red spring on a heads and cam only ls1 and there pros and cons. Also would like to know the ones out there on same setup but with blue spring and there pros and cons. and lastly like i mentionedabove, all im doing is stock 243 heads and small cam which spring would i be better of with?

I run the blue spring in my car. cold start up I see right around 60 psi and when it hits operating temp 40 psi at idle. When I go WOT it hits 65 to 70 psi.

When we use that pump, we keep the red spring in it. We are seeing 45-50 at idle and around 75-80 at redline.

Im assuming you've guys used the red spring on stock bottom end?

Ive seen on here lots of people recommending the blue spring rather than the red but i never read anything bad happening by using the red. Any bad experience by using the red spring on your side?

Yes we have used the red spring on many stock engines. It normally comes at the customers request though. If we were to build an engine from scratch our way and it was a stock bottom end, we would put the GM pump in. If we were to build a stroker or an engine that needed extra bearing clearances, it would get the Melling with the red spring. Honestly, you will be fine with either spring choice. We just prefer to see a little higher pressure.
