Is there a quiet lifter?
Is there a quiet lifter? Very simply, is there a lifter that is known for quiet operation?
In my case the cam has LSL lobes (at least on the intake side) and the LS7 lifters are definitely not quiet.
Lots of searching and I haven't seen any lifter consistently described as quiet.

Clearly LS7's are not "known for quiet operation"...but I'm guessing you already knew that and just needed the chance to tell everybody they're setting it up wrong?

Especially at lower RPM I would think the setup and lobe profile would have most of the effect on a properly operating lifter of any kind. Maybe the larger roller size of higher end Morel/Lunati lifters might factor in some.

I'm running a 229/244 duration cam not sure what lobes they are...... btr SLR lifters. At idle even on start up its super quiet under the hood.... I have literally put my ear right beside my cylinder head and all I hear is my belt. Only way you can tell my car is cammed if you walk around to the rear bumper......

In my case the lifters don't make a sound on cold start but as it warms up they make noise.
I'm seeing 50 - 60psi hot idle, and with 1.5 - 1.75 turns preload. Tried different oils, and the motor has never seen over 1500 miles on oil change.

Even when my car is fully warmed up its quiet. Really quiet. My setup as far as valvetrain is btr 660 springs, trunion kit, btr SLR lifters, chromoly pushrods 7.350, shumann copo oil pump, 229/244 cam, C5R timing chain, and for oil I run Vavoline.....
Ok. Who has had a set-up like the one below with a lifter that wasn't noisy.
LSL lobes
5/16 x 0.080 x 7.550 push rods
LS1 rockers w/trunion kit
PAC Springs (1218 I believe)
2.055/1.575 valves
1.5 - 1.75 turns of preload

Obviously there are probably better lifters for my set up...but its made pretty good power going on 2 years. If I believed everything I read on the interweb, the ls7's should have exploded and wrecked my motor on the first dyno pull.
It probably wont get any quieter than an LS7 since its a factory lifter and NVH are taken into account for 100k miles. Obviously with more spring pressure and aggressive lobes, its a gamble with reliability.
