timing chain issues
I've got a Rollmaster single chain set which is actually pretty firm, very little slack at all, I'll also be using an LS6 damper which won't make the chain much, if any firmer anyway, maybe try a Rollmaster set and see how it is.
The standard chain that came off after 200 000+ km was so loose the cam timing would have been retarded about 4 degrees.
Best wishes,
Jason.

I got mine sent over from from Kaytech late last year, they're still showing them in stock, make sure you're sitting down when you look at the price though although I believe they were expensive even from GM when you could get them.
I originally got an LS2 sent over with some stuff from Brian Tooley but I didn't read their info properly at the time as it doesn't fit an LS6 block, but at least it wasn't very expensive.
You can get an adaptor that allows you to use an LS2 damper with an LS1/LS6 block though, I'm not sure how that would compare price wise, good luck.

I'm not sure if your block has been line bored or not. I had an issue with a loose timing chain so I bought a Cloyes hex adjust double roller chain that was .010 shorter. Fits like it should now although mine did require a little clearancing of the oil pump and timing chain cover. I also used a trick flow timing chain damper kit.
