Default Suggestions for cam and intake only?

I have a 2000 Z28 A4. Getting ready to order Performa built level 2 trans and a 3600-3800 stall. Also going 3.73s I'd love your suggestions for a cam and intake/tb.
Current mods are:
Kooks 1 7/8 lt's
Kooks true duals
SLP cold air kit
Bmr tunnel brace, lcas, Panhard bar, strut tower brace, and weld in sfc.

Either a Fast intake or LS6 intake, and as far as the cam...I'd seriously consider calling one of the vendors on here

If willing to do a FAST intake I would sooner do heads. If trying to stay more budget then LS6 is basically the only intake choice you have.

I was thinking to go ahead and get the fast so when I get the heads I'm set. I've been looking at the tsp torquer cams.

You have quite a few options! With your stall speed and gearing, there are multiple ones to choose from. It all comes down to how radical you'd like to go. Give us a call at 512-863-0900, and we can help you select the right cam for your wants and needs!

OP,

Look into TSP 228r or Torquer 2 232/234.

Great mod list! Your going to like that trans and stall. IMO put a set of ported ls6 heads on from Texas speed over a fast intake setup. The fast will end up costing you just as much without the gains of the heads. **** I'd rather put stock ls6 head on and a ls6 intake for about $ 7-900 over a fast. And put it this way, buy and ls6 Intake and heads now than when you have enough money for a fast to complete you H/C setup sell your ls6 for the same price you bought it for lol. Done

I'd go with an LS6 or lightly ported Dorman. For a cam I'd look closely at the Cam motion Titan3 or 4.

People still use those cams/lobes in 2015?

Might as well just say "are people still running LS1's in 2015"

I do not see why not...they are proven and make power. Sure milder lobes might be the new craze but there is nothing wrong with XER lobes. I doubt anybody is going to reinvent the wheel for the LS1 18yrs later. If I am not mistaken Pat G made 500whp with a SBE LS1 using XER lobes and had no problems controlling the valves. Personally I would prefer a milder lobe for a street car, but the does not mean there is anything wrong with a 228r or Torquer 2.

So what would you suggest? As stated they're proven to make power. Over and over.

This is, by far, one of the most intelligent posts I've seen in a long time. We still sell a LOT of both cams mentioned for the reasons you mentioned. Cam fads definitely come and go, depending on who is pushing what at any particular time. We have done a LOT of engine dyno testing with many different lobes. Many people try to reinvent the wheel, so to speak, acting like a certain 224 lobe, for instance, will make tons more power over another 224 lobe. Real world testing will show you much smaller variances than what people may think based on what's on paper, some to the point that you could chalk it up to variances between dyno pulls. Of course, it depends on which two lobes you're testing. The XER lobes work well, especially given the fact that they've been around for so long. No doubt that things progress over time, and there have been TONS of new lobes developed. We continue to test new lobes, but some things aren't worth changing when they can produce power within 1 HP of what you're currently offering customers.

Moral of the story...there's only so far that cam theory will get you before you have to test it in a real-world environment. A gain on paper may not produce a gain when running in an engine and vice versa.
