Default Stock oil pump

I have a 2000 LQ4 that I recently broke down my oil pump and hand ported it for practice. What is the deal with the pre-01 castings concerning the oil pumps? Is there any reason I should not reuse with one? I don't have a problem picking up a LS6 pump, just wondering why I can or cannot use my current pump.... Also, if it is reusable, where can I find replacement springs for the pressure relief valve? Thanks in advance.

my stock 00 ls1 pump failed on me at like 50k miles. not sure what causes them to let go but i do know it is definitely a real thing. ported ls6 is fine, but i went with a melling.

I went with the melling 10296 and very seldom see oil pressure under 50 even hot. Great oil pumps.
