Default To rebuild or not to rebuild?

I bought a 5.3 out of a 2001 Tahoe to put in my 89 Silverado. The motor had Castech 706 heads on it so I got a set of 862 heads. I got them ported and 2" intake valves, and ls6 springs put in. I also have a ls6 cam to go in it. Now on to my question, the motor has 160,000 miles on it. It ran we'll when it came out of the Tahoe. Is it worth the time and money to re-ring, put in new bearings, and ARP rod bolts in? It still has some crosshatching in the cylinders so I figure it need a hone if I re-ring it. i have been told to just slap the new heads on and drive, just thought this would be the place for real answers.

Personally I'd do at least that, 160k is good amount of miles on those and why not take advantage of the fact that the engine is out to refresh it rather than putting it all in then taking it all out again to fix it.

Pulled the motor down. cam bearings had some wear I didn't like the looks of, so no it's getting new cam, rod and main bearings, a hone and rings. I order ARP rod bolts but the machine shop says I probably don't need them. No sure what way I'm going on that yet.

What are they charging you for the machine work.

I ran into the same issue when I did my build. I put everything new from the cam up and took a chance on the short block. Blew something last week with about 10,000 miles on it. Have to pull mine now. Glad you tore into yours.

$125 to clean and hone the block, $80 to hone/resize the rods if needed, $25 for cam bearings, $125 to assemble the short block.

That's great, I didn't think it would have been that cheap.
