Unhappy Major Problem on Cam/Spring Swap

Well here is what happened. Ive been doing the cam/spring install on the camaro last week and it happened! As I was doing the first set of springs on the drivers side. I was using the compression tool from Vinci and the Exhaust side valve stem got got on one of the springs and was pushed down. Sure enough I heard a "Clunk" sound and then escaping air pressure from the leak down tester that I had set up for the cylinder. I nearly started crying when I heard this. I was following JMXs instructions to the letter but unfortunately this was my own doing. My question is what now? I didn't mess with car all weekend. I didn't have any problems until then. Man I got drunk for three days straight pissed off as hell. Anybody got any thoughts on this other than me being a Dumb*ss.

Thanks in advance
Sharky

did the vavle come completely out of the guide? if not you can lift it back up with a pen magnet or turn the motor over slowly and see if it comes back up. i prefer the TDC method over the air for the isssue you had.

I didn't check to see if it fell all the way. I did manage to pull the valve stem up again.
Any other suggestions I might try? I will be doing this after work.

Thanks

If you can still pull the valve up by hand, then pump the cylinder back up with air and pull the valve onto the seat.
I wouldn't try rotating the engine. The valve angle won't allow the piston to push the valve up straight.

I had this happen before on a friend's car.
-Put a pen magnet on the valve tip to keep it from falling down any more
-fill the chamber with air via your air compressor, at least 100 PSI
-have someone hold the pen magnet onto the valve stem while another person rotates the crank over VERY slowly
-the valve will come back up

If worst comes to worst... you might have to pull the head, but thats not THAT hard.

I used the air compressor method too, worked like a charm!

I use both TDC and air compressor method to be safe BUT becarefull some time the air will roll the crank off TDC and if you bump the value it may loose the air seal and fall ( I lock the crank with a homemade tool for safety ) with the air the value will stay up about 1/8 in higher than with TDC - makes it easy to change springs

I used the TDC method. It assures that the valves won't fall. Besides, it's not that hard or confusing to turn the crank 90 after each set of 2 are done.

Woo Hoo got the valve back up! Used the pen magnet method and air pressure. I'm waiting on some extra locks to finish up the job hopefully today after work and then maybe crank it up tomorrow. I'm taking my time with this guys. If you haven't already noticed this is the first car I have ever worked on myself. I appreciate all the feedback I got on this. Ive been a member of the board for a while and usaully just read the posts and use the advice as you can see by the number of posts I have. Anyways thanks.
