Default How Aggressive Is This Cam

I purchased a car with an LS1 in it. It looks to have an LS6 intake and a custom cam.

Here are the specs I have:

Thunder Racing LS1 Custom Cam
230/236 .592/.602 112 + 4 LSA

I tried to find a similar one to compare it to but I couldn't find out that much. Thanks

Do you mean "aggressive", like is it too aggressive to daily drive?

That cam has 9* of valve overlap, and a IVC of 43. Imo, with a good tune and at least 3.90 rear gears with a M6 transmission, or 3.23 and a 3600 stall TC in a A4 transmission car it should be daily driver friendly.

It's in a 69 camaro so I won't be daily driving it. It does have an M6 but I'm not sure what gears are in the rear yet as I just picked it up and the previous owner has no idea about vehicles (mods were done from the owner before him).

Comparable to something like a stage 2 cam? I just tried to calculate the valve overlap on a stock 98-00 cam and it has -35.5 degrees of overlap? So mine should sound much more lumpy over stock? I've only driven mine a few times so far.

should be fairly similar to the cam I used to run, with a decent tune in a manual it should drive close to stock but have a lot more power and a really good sounding idle

To calculate overlap add the intake and exhaust duration, divide by 4, subtract LSA and multiply the result by 2.
230 + 236 = 466 466/4 = 116.5 116.5 - 112 = 4.5 4.5 x 2 = 9 degrees @ 0.050 lift. If you know the advertised duration (duration @ 0.006) you can figure that the same way. You can go to Wallace racing and plug in your cam numbers to get valve events and overlap. It can show you the effect of advancing or retarding your cam.

A cammed LS1 in a 69 Camaro sounds fun; have you driven it much ?

Thanks I've just driven it a little bit so far. I picked it up last Sunday and need to fix a few things. The posi in the rear is shot so with only 1 tire getting the power there is 0 traction in first or second. I'll take it out again this weekend if the weather is reasonable and look into getting the posi replaced in a week or so. I also have to throw a new battery in it.

Also I was able to calculate the 9 degrees of overlap on my cam but calculating it on the stock ls1 cam i was getting a negative number. I'm guessing that means there is just no overlap?

exactly... every oem cam will have negative overlap simply meaning that both valves are closed together for a period of time. idk what the stock ls1 cam is but i believe a stock ls6 cam is around -16

At .05" lift the 230/236 112lsa has 9* overlap, but at .006" lift it can easily have 58* 0verlap, so it not that cut and dry. Even the factory Z06 cam(204/218 117.5lsa) has -24* overlap at .05" lift, still has 38.5* of overlap at .006" lift.
