Default 6.0 vs 5.3

I ended up with both. I also have a pair of ported 862's with big valves and a pair of stock 317's. I'm thinking go the 6.0 with the 862's.

Is this the best way to go? Also what cam do you guys recommend for use in a 93 mustang? I plan to use 4l60e with 3k stall converter.

Thanks

If both are in hand then always go bigger. 4l60e will not be happy behind anything over stock hp ratings I have read.

I'm running ported 862's on a 6.0 and it does pretty good with a healthy cam. Plus the compression bump is nice

Default blocks

Both are iron blocks. I bought the 5.3 first and then found a 2001 6.0 with the 4L80E.

I hear that the 4L80E has some clearance issues on a foxbody mustang swap? What camshaft should I go with?

thanks,

Dogman

Sound like you have a LM7 and a LQ4.
If you was going all motor I'd definitely go with the 6.0 and find a way to get that compression up.
We all know 5.3 motors are very proven with a turbo......

4l60E gets a bad rap because of bad builders. Good builder and they can handle running 9s, bad builder and 6-12 months of 13s will destroy it.

Your "bigger valve" 862s might only flow what the stock 317s flow. which could do a fair bit better with mild bowl work and valvejob.

The 4l60e from what i have read will fit without any modifications to the floor pans. I'd perfer to go that way.

So the ported 862's with the bigger valves won't flow as much air as the stock 317's?

Thanks for the input. This is my first ls build and I'm trying to learn as fast as I can.

Thanks again guys.

If you decide to go with the 317 heads, have them milled down. The 317's have large combustion chambers, and consequently low compression ratio.

Suggestion - if you price out that the head work is going to run >$500, and you want to keep on a tight budget, get a set of 243 or 799 heads and put them on the 6.0 block.
