Like others have suggested, getting the TFS 220cc heads and having someone hand finish them is a great way to go.

I went a step further and got the TFS 220cc porter castings, which basically need the chamber and valve job finished to be ready to run. I got to pick my own valve job, valve and throat sizes, and had a chamber ground, digitized, and CNC machined for my application. It's a truly custom, one of a kind set of heads and I've got $2000 invested minus valve springs.

I agree...I was was going to go with TFS 220's but ran across a fresh set of TEA 243's with light weight valves, assembled with PAC duals, Ti retainers, for several hundred less then what cast 220's would of cost.

That sounds like a great idea, especially since you only spent about as much as the regular 220s.

What part numbers were those heads and who did you have do the work?

I posted a thread on them a little while ago. I'm still putting the car together so I won't have dyno results for a little while. Should have flow numbers soon though.

Pretty Excited: My Custom Trickflow Heads are Ready

So, I still haven't been able to talk to Brian directly. I did get an email back from someone via his website. Price for the TFS with the blending is $2200 according to That person. So I believe we've got this nailed down. Thanks for all the help.

Which route did you end up going with? There are so many choices out there these days and a bunch of guys making cost to our more than 500 to the tire that are somewhat streetable.

Ummmmm.....there are certainly alot of choices.....but not alot of (stock displacement) very streetable 500 RWHP combos (although I hope to see a few more close to that number soon!).

Mike, like yourself "Gluemaker" decided to enlist my services and he and I are working on a 416 together. After literally having a set of Mamofied MMS 220's in a box, labeled, and ready to ship (no joke), Ryan decided he wanted to go big or go home so he scrapped the 346 build at the last minute and I'm now helping him with a 416 CID shortblock and a set of Mamofied MMS 235 heads which he currently has in his possession already (and possibly close to the kitchen or something based on a picture I recently saw.....might have been his bedroom.....LOL).

Anyway.....his build should be pretty stout. Due to the "escalation" of the project (and the costs), he is needing a few more weeks to work on getting the rest of the money for the assembled shortblock (Mamo layaway....LOL).

I'm sure he will chime in at some point.....felt the need to clarify how few "close to 500 RWHP drivable combo's" there are as that is a serious bench mark to even get close to regardless of the size of the cam....and obviously more impressive with a smaller grind of course.

Its another one of the dozen or so cool projects I have in the works that I anticipate you guys finally seeing the results of when the smoke clears.....but we all know that process sometimes takes alot longer than anyone wants for various reasons.....time.....money.....Murphy....whatever. ....LOL

Cheers,
Tony

My build did escalate quickly and at the absolute last second. I think I made the decision at 4 am the day the 220's were to be shipped out. I realized that with a max effort 346, I was essentially modding myself into a corner where I didn't have much room to grow. So I went stroker on this build.

Ill be doing a complete build thread once I'm ready to put the car together. Ive got a lot to get accomplished before we hit that point.

Oh, and yes, I keep my MMS 235's on my kitchen counter.

Very much looking forward to seeing a few of these come together! Gets more exciting everyday! What are some of the details of your build? Like a couple others on here I'd like to think I am doing a no excuses build with Tony's CNC+ NFI 235's and ported 102. Looking forward to hearing how similar our builds will be!
