Default What Springs?

I will be installing stage 2.5 ls6 heads with the Streetsweeper Ht cam (228/232 .600/.612 111 LSA). Will some prc 1518 single beehives be fine or should I just get some duals? I've read the pros and cons to each and would rather have the 1518s but I'm not sure what is recommended for that cam. Thanks.

with that cam I would go with a good dual spring. the lobes are fairly aggressive. btr platinums with TI retainers are a good choice

BTR duals, Lunati duals, or PRC.....all great spring kits with locators and retainers.

So it seems duals it is. I read somewhere that I could make a little more power with the beehives because of the weight, but if the cam calls for duals then I don't want to risk it.

beehives do weigh a little less but its not going to show up on a dyno. the lighter weight will mainly keep the valvetrain stable longer provided the cam lobes dont exceed the capacity of the spring. when one spring is closing the other is opening keeping the rotation of the motor going so it doesnt really cause any more friction going with the duals.

Go duals!! I have seen duals springs save motors. One spring break and other one still holding up....

How do you define "Lobes fairly aggressive" please?

I did run the StreetSweeper camshaft series from Ed Curtis at FTI for more than 30000 miles rev limiter set at 7700 rpm on my previous LS6 without any issues.

Just curious.

I would as was said ed's cams are known for having slightly more aggressive lobes than say an eps cam would. Meaning the ramp rates of the lobes are fast maybe a little jerky and are harder on springs. Nothing wrong with that they just need to be controlled more, in this case a really good beehive would work. Like a psi 1511 or pac 1518 but I would feel more comfortable with duals. The btr or tick kit is a good budget option

I am by far nor qualified to suggest anything.
I tried to answer your question including details about the entire valve-train, as I was thinking it would make sense to you.
Good luck with your future springs.

Your thread was very informative , however I've been doing some more research on the topic and keep finding conflicting info. I just Wanted to see if some ppl with the same setups were running different Springs and their experiences. Maybe one of the sponsors could chime in...

The beehives are lighter and lighter= stability however that cam uses aggressive lobes so the beehive here isnt really advised. If you go on eds website and look he SPECIFICALLY tells you to run dual springs. http://www.flowtechinduction.com/fti...r-ht-camshaft/ Like I said the beehives if they can control the cam will just be more stable for longer. the power difference isnt even ther becaus ethink about it, as one spring closes the other on the other side is opening, keeping the engine rotating so the spring rate doesnt matter

I run beehives and will soon be running duals. Not because I like them better but because the new combo necessitates it. I know lots of people will tell you dual springs save the motor and sometimes thats true however duals can easily kill the motor just like a beehive can if it breaks. If that outer spring breaks at 6500 rpm that tiny helper spring is not going to stop the piston and the valve from becoming friends.

If you run this cam you need duals plain and simple. Based on ed's spring recommendation the min spring you need is 135 on the seat and 400 lb open. Btr springs are 155 and 380 but can be shimmed to 400 open and 165 ish on the seat. For 300 bucks with TI retainers I'd be ordering those.
