Should make a nice 10.1:1 or so driver with a nice chop to it. Id maybe mill the heads .030" and use a cometic .040" thick gasket to help bump it up a bit more if budget allows. Probably gonna need a 3200-3600 stall with it.

That sounds like a nice, fun build. Motor will run great. If you want to save a bit of coin, use the .041" head gasket and don't mill. You'll end up around 10.5:1. With that 228R cam, you'll want 3.73 gears behind the auto trans.

For the record, I don't think that is too much cam at all. That's a good choice for the 243 heads and 4" bore. You will probably need 36# injectors with that set up. You'll want long tube headers to work well with that cam. Intake, a Fast 92/92 would be plenty.

Did you buy these local on CL?
The ones originally from Diablo racing?
If so, you may want to check with him. The Ad said they had been "surfaced"

Just got home from picking up parts, congrats to Allen and wife with their first baby. great guy to talk to and gave me a great deal on the parts. He said the 243 heads were off a vette with the good light weight valves, the cam is the texas speed 228r new still in the bag, texas speed push rods new in bag and a set of GM head gaskets. wish i had the money to buy the lower half of him. baby steps lol

I have the exact same setup in my BMW. I drive it daily with a 4l60e and a yank ss3200 converter. 3.91 gears. It has great torque and pulls to 6500 no problem. I also am still on stock 28lb injectors. But they are maxed out. It's fairly tame and have no problem drivability wise. I even drive it in the snow. Solid combo.

No. Stock 243s off of a 5.3. I haven't dynoed the car so I can't really say. But there is a ton of torque. I don't think the 3200 converter and 3.91 gears hurt either though. I am thinking of having AI CNC port the heads and get a bigger cam just because I can't leave well enough alone. I do get 18mpg avg per tank and that's turning 2600 at 70.
