I wanna do this build and wanted to hear some options.
Still new to the ls1 builds. But this is what I been reading the works good for a simple N/A BUILD and easy power.
Ls1/ls6 block with ported 243 heads. Ls6 intake manifold. Comp cam (springs. Cam. Push rods.) full bolt ons and tune.
This is going in 2012 GMC Sierra if I don't need major engine harness modification. I got and 05 Silverado 2 doors short bed 2nd option to swap it as well any suggestions will help.

I will say get a already built short block that's on sale on here. If you buy one used, you don't know the history of it and you might ended up rebuilding it. And guess what? machine work is not cheap. The amount after rebuild, it will be cheaper and quicker to get one already made. Look for it at the sales dept.

I preferred to build it my self so I would now what I do to it. been looking at the sales dept. for a block found one but is in Florida think shipping it would kill me. here in Salem,Or junk yards $1000 for a short block. Think is too much for it.

The problem is a ls1-6 is a 24 tooth reluctor wheel and 2012 will be 58. I'm not sure if the knock sensors got moved on the newer 5.3s from under the intake to the side of the block or not. I also know the ls3 has a timing cover mounted cam sensor and the 1-6 is in the back of the block. The 2012 harness may be set up for the timing cover. Just a few things to look into.
